Monojit Dutta, widely known as Kolkatar Chobiwala, began his photography journey in 2019 during his college years. He started with mobile photography and, during the COVID period, documented Kolkata using only his smartphone. Through streets, architecture, daily life, and quiet human moments, he developed a strong visual language that shaped his identity as a photographer and storyteller. Over time, he expanded his work across portraits, landscapes, events, product photography, travel visuals, street photography, documentary storytelling, and wedding photography, with a deep focus on capturing authentic emotions, real human stories, and the cultural essence of Kolkata.
Professional Associations
Monojit Dutta serves as a Brand Ambassador for Pexels, Framez, Glostars, and Pindle, actively contributing to the creative ecosystem through collaborations and community engagement. He has worked with and received recognition from leading global brands such as Samsung, Canon, Nikon, Vivo, TECNO, OPPO, realme, Canva, and ISKCON. Alongside his professional journey, he has built and nurtured one of the largest mobile photography communities in Kolkata, bringing together photographers through continuous engagement and creative initiatives.
Achievements and Recognitions
Monojit has earned recognition from more than 200 colleges, universities, and premier institutions across India, including IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Jammu, etc. He has consistently secured top positions in photography competitions, with a significant number of first-place finishes, demonstrating both consistency and excellence across diverse themes.
He is the winner of the India #WithGalaxy National Photography Contest, and has received accolades in competitions such as the Realme Photography Awards, the Vivo World Photography Day Contest, and secured Second Position in the Clarity in Every Journey Contest by OPPO. He is also a winner of the Croma Photography Contest, along with numerous other recognitions across reputed national-level competitions.
International Achievements
His work has gained international recognition through photography contests across India, Bangladesh, Australia, Russia, and the United States of America. He was honored among the Top 50 Street Photographers in the world in 2021 and ranked among the Top 150 Indian Photographers in the prestigious 35 Awards, Russia, establishing his presence on a global stage.
Publications and Reach
Monojitโs photographs have generated over 120 million views and have been downloaded more than 500,000 times across Pexels and Unsplash. His work has been featured by leading media platforms such as NDTV, The Times of India, and IndiaTimes, and showcased across more than 50,000 platforms worldwide, reflecting his strong global reach and digital impact.
Community, Judging and Mentorship
Monojit has played a key role in organizing and leading numerous photowalks across India, fostering collaboration and learning among photographers. He conducted his first major photowalk in collaboration with brands like Infinix, TECNO, and Framez, and has since continued organizing both brand-led and independent photowalks. His second Pexels photowalk became the largest, with participation from more than 175 photographers.
He has also served as a judge in several national-level photography competitions organized by platforms and institutions such as Wiki Kolkata and Ramakrishna Mission Narendrapur, contributing his expertise in evaluating creative work. In addition, he actively mentors aspiring photographers by training young students and conducting free online photography sessions, helping them develop both technical skills and creative vision.
Present Work
Monojit is now actively stepping into professional photography, offering services in weddings, pre-wedding shoots, brand campaigns, portraits, and commercial assignments, while continuing to strengthen his identity as a visual storyteller.
