Anuradha – Artist by Passion

Anuradha Bhattacharya is a self-taught artist by passion and a businesswoman by profession. As a person, she much intrigued by nature and that is where her passion, as well as inspiration, comes from. Anuradha tries to express the various nuances & facets of nature through paint on canvas is the soul of my artistic journey. She believes that “Nothing can be more expressive or beautiful than nature and I try to capture the magnamity of it in my works.”

Anuradha Bhattacharya had her first solo painting exhibition titled “ESSENCE” in 5th to 8th May 2022 at Altamira Art Gallery. Mr. Sudip Chakraborty from Lifeplus Magazine had the opportunity to visit the exhibition and had a few words with Anuradha. Here is the excerpt of the conversation:

Sudip (LifePlus Magazine) : Tell us a few words about yourself.

Anuradha Bhattacharya : Painting is my passion. It’s not my profession. My father is having a HR consultancy that I am looking after it. I give time to my art generally during the night between 11 pm till early morning 3:30- 4:00 a.m. During the day I stay busy with my office works and returning from office and completing all my other household works I get time to work on my paintings

Sudip (LifePlus Magazine) : I can see your works are mostly on landscape

Anuradha Bhattacharya: Yes, my paintings are mainly on landscape. As you can see, title of my exhibition is “ESSENCE”. It’s because I work on landscape.

Sudip (LifePlus Magazine) : Why mostly landscape?

Anuradha Bhattacharya:  Landscape is my inspiration for painting mainly because I do not like any restrictions. When you are working on landscape, you don’t have to limit yourself within few colours, but for landscape, I can define my color. I can combine different kinds of color and I have wide scope of using colors.

But if I want to do something else, we cannot do the same way. There are restrictions for instance if I want to paint human, we have few color options for hairs, its black or brown.

I cannot do much experiment in other areas that I can do with nature. That is the reason I love to work with nature.

Different situations can be found out in nature. If you compare life with nature, you will find many similarities, just like in our life, you will find all the days are not same. Some days are good, some are moderate, and some days are gloomy. Even in a day sometime you are cheerful some time your mood is running on rough patches. Nature experience similar up and down. In life, whatever situation we face, similar situation can be found out in the nature. That’s why mainly I love to work with nature.

Sudip (LifePlus Magazine) : Tell us about your exhibition

Anuradha Bhattacharya : This is my seventh exhibition. This exhibition is very special because this is my first solo exhibition.

Sudip (LifePlus Magazine): Tell us about your formal education. Are you from the fine Arts background?

Anuradha Bhattacharya : Not really actually I had Fine Arts in my intermediate , but After that I have done BBA and then I went to Manchester UK to complete my MBA. I studied in Manchester for 1 year.

After that, for two years I worked there in UK, finally I returned back and I joined my father’s office and I’m still managing my family business. This is my professional side, actually.

So you can see that from my professional side and my passion, there is no definite connection or the painting that I am doing. That is purely from Passion.

Sudip (LifePlus Magazine):  So till then what is your experience about your solo exhibition?Anuradha Bhattacharya : Though this is my first solo yet my experience is great, it’s only 3 to 4 days, I saw within this few days many people have visited my exhibition, many people has contacted me. Some my other seniors. Told me it is quite rare to see so many visitors in the first Solo exhibition.  So many visitors came to see my paintings and they have appreciated my work. I am very happy and excited.

Sudip (LifePlus Magazine):   Do you have a future plan to be into paintings dedicatedly?

Anuradha Bhattacharya : No I am concerned about creating more numbers of paintings so that I don’t have to display same paintings over and again for different exhibitions

Sudip (LifePlus Magazine):  To create a painting like those displayed in this exhibition how much time it requires to complete?

Anuradha Bhattacharya : Four to five hours  generally takes to complete a painting like this, but that also depends on the size. You can see the some of the sizes are bigger, some of the medium size. So according to size the time may vary, and it also depends on the details. For example, the  that painting, that you can see ocean waves it took much time to create the details – a paintings like this may take more than a day

Sudip (LifePlus Magazine): Tell about your family.

Anuradha Bhattacharya : I have a very supportive family that includes my mom, dad, sister and a brother. My Dad is my inspiration. My in-laws, I call them Kaku and Kakima they both are very supportive and they are similarly excited about my Exhibition, I feel lucky to have them in my life. Last but not the least My husband, Gaurav. He is always there for me in every situation.
