Sougata Pal’s story collection – Guptadhaner Golpo

Sougata Pal’s bengali story collection, “Guptadhaner Golpo” (The Tale of Hidden Treasures), has been published by Granthabhasha and will be officially released on November 9th at Harit Book Store in Patuli, Kolkata. Everyone is warmly invited.

The book contains four major stories, centred around the theme of hidden treasures. Although primarily about treasure hunts, these stories delve into profound histories, freedom struggles, the suffering of slaves, the tyranny of infamous rulers, the survival of two young men lost on an island in the Atlantic Ocean, an attempt to locate a fortress in the forests of France, the mysterious allure of an ancient palace’s ruins, and the legacy of a long-lost king and a noble landlord’s mansion. The stories also feature puzzles, riddles, and codes. Solving them will lead to treasure.

Story Summaries:

1. Makafan’s Treasure: In 1914, Nirjhar’s passenger ship sinks in the Atlantic Ocean on its way from India to England. By fate, he survives and reaches a deserted island where, it is rumoured, lies the treasure of the Black pirate Makafan. The whites called him the Angel of Death, while the Black community saw him as a Robin Hood. Who was he really?

2. The Treasure of Mangalgarh: Three friends—Himanshu, Tamal, and Saikat—go on a trip to Mangalgarh during the festive holidays. Legend has it that the scent of a ghostly queen lingers in the air. Beneath the ruins of her palace lies a priceless diamond, the Asman-i-Noor, once coveted by two mighty imperial powers. What dangers await the three friends?

3. The Treasure of the Tyrant Poet: While on a trip to Europe, investigative journalist Aditya discovers the lost poetry notebook of a British poet. In his final poem, the poet confesses to having committed heinous acts against countless people under the Devil’s influence, hiding his amassed wealth in a castle. Who was this poet?

4. The Treasure of Vishnukunja: One day, an ancient riddle is found in a two-hundred-fifty-year-old mansion, Vishnukunja. Newlyweds Devadatta and Haimanti set out to solve it. What part of Bengal’s history will shine in their quest?

Granthabhasha has worked hard to make this collection beautiful in every way. The book is hardbound, with a paper jacket and vivid printing inside, with careful editing of the text. Our entire team has put great effort into this work, and if it resonates with readers, all that hard work will be worthwhile.

Everyone is warmly invited on November 9th!
