Embracing self
Written by Meera Krishnan
Sun shining so bright,
And my life getting sunnier each passing day.
With nothing left to complain,
Life’s going super smooth.
A feeling that felt serene and blessed.
Just then,
A passerby smiled and paused.
“Oh! my child, why do you look so fat?”
It wasn’t just a question,
But an arrow-
Strong enough to burst
My ballooning confidence.
“Why am I fat?”,
Sheepish a question, indeed-
A first-of-its kind encounter.
Insecurity crawled in,
Tears welled in my eyes,
Standing aloof,
Feeling like an empty bottle,
With no answers to render.
Sun shining so bright,
Yet, my life wouldn’t get sunnier,
Wouldn’t go smoother,
Unless I embrace,
The boldness,
That never allows anyone to shatter,
The serene feel within me.
That never lets slip,
The blessing that followed me all life.
