From Stage to Jury: Sudeshna Dey Brings Her Artistic Lens to the contest

Sudeshna Dey is a celebrated dancer, choreographer, and educator based in Kolkata, India, whose artistic journey spans continents and disciplines. A former troupe member of the renowned Tanushree Shankar Dance Company, Sudeshna has long been recognized for her expressive storytelling and innovative choreography.

Her early promise was affirmed with the Telegraph School Excellence Award for extraordinary dance, followed by the prestigious Uday Shankar Award—a scholarship that took her to The Place, London, in 2005 to deepen her training in contemporary movement. She later traveled to Birmingham to choreograph Tasher Desh for Arts Bengal, blending Rabindrik themes with modern sensibilities.

Sudeshna’s creative voice has resonated across platforms. She was twice invited by the Ministry of Culture’s EZCC to perform at national Dance & Music festivals, and her groundbreaking solo Brihannala, exploring gender and identity, garnered over 9 lakh views on Facebook. This piece was also featured in a 2021 webinar series by the Kolkata Centre for Creativity, supported by the British Council.

Her work often bridges cultures and communities. She performed in Leap, a collaborative event hosted by Pickle Factory and Artswood, sharing the stage with Austria’s CieLaroque dance company. In 2024, she was among 108 women honored to inaugurate the New Town Sarbojanin Durgotsab through the program Asadharani – Amra Sobai Durga, celebrating feminine strength and solidarity.

Beyond the stage, Sudeshna has served as an External Examiner for Suro Bharati Sangeet Kala Kendra and appeared in multiple music videos and television serials, bringing her artistry to wider audiences.

As a judge for the Lifeplus Photo Contest 2025, Sudeshna brings a keen eye for visual rhythm, emotional nuance, and cultural depth. Her message to participants is clear: “Art is not just seen—it is felt. Let your images move us.”

Sudeshna‘s Message for participants:

To every participant — your photographs are your voice, your vision, your truth. Keep capturing the world through your unique lens, for that’s where true artistry lives.
