Ganer Joware : Ganpion and Pakrashi Harmonium Celebrate Kolkata’s Spirit

Drawn by roots and culture— Biprashekhar Chakraborty, a PhD in Biotechnology and Kanad Bhattacharjee a Fintech technologist,—both chose to leave behind the glittering career prospects of Bangalore and return to their soil in Kolkata a year ago. Out of their shared vision was born Ganpion—a musical platform where emerging artists find the spotlight they deserve.

On Saturday, May 30, Ganpion presented a special concert titled “Ganer Joware” at Uttam Mancha, in collaboration with Pakrashi Harmonium.

The evening unfolded as a seamless blend of the new and the seasoned, with performances across genres that kept the audience spellbound.

The program opened with renowned vocalist Sri Raghav Chattopadhyay alongside Smt. Ipsita Ghosh, delivering solos and duets. Their repertoire, ranging from Nazrul songs to other classics, set the tone for the evening. Responding to audience requests, they offered additional renditions, making the start truly engaging. The event was anchored by Sri Samya Karfa.

Next came a mesmerizing segment—Saunak Chattopadhyay, a young yet remarkable singer, joined forces with celebrated sarod maestro Pandit Amitava Majumdar. Together they presented Rabindra Sangeet steeped in raga, accompanied on tabla by Shubhajyoti Guha, leaving listeners entranced.

The finale brought a burst of energy. Straight from his office, Akib took the stage with his Bengali band The Akib Hayat Project, electrifying the audience. Just when the crowd thought the surprises were over, a hush fell—only to erupt in thunderous applause as Shilajit himself walked in mid-song, singing alongside Akib. For nearly an hour, this duo kept the hall alive with music and wit, Shilajit’s spontaneous remarks adding sparkle to the performance. A special highlight was his warm message to Lifeplus Magazine readers, which will be published soon.

The event was documented and promoted on social media by Cinema for a Cause.

From Lifeplus Magazine, we witnessed the entire program, interviewed distinguished personalities, and recorded the performances. The video will be released in installments shortly. For now, here are glimpses through a few still photographs.

Cultural Significance

“Ganer Jowar” was more than a concert—it was a celebration of continuity. The presence of veterans alongside rising talents reaffirmed that Bengali music is not confined to the past but is thriving in the hands of a new generation. Such evenings breathe life into the city’s cultural fabric.

Looking Ahead

Initiatives like Ganpion promise to broaden Kolkata’s musical landscape. For emerging artists, it is a stage to showcase their craft; for audiences, it is an experience where Nazrul, Rabindranath, and contemporary Bengali bands coexist in harmony. This fusion of tradition and modernity is what makes the city’s music scene truly vibrant.
