Life Through the Lens of Reality: Filmmaker Raja Munshi’s Powerful Narrative
Lifeplus Magazine is proud to showcase independent filmmaker Raja Munshi from Haridevpur, West Bengal, whose latest film offers a thought-provoking exploration into the emotional void and societal challenges faced by neglected youth.
Raja Munshi was deeply moved by the plight of children growing up in broken or incomplete families. Observing how many young lives were shaped by the absence of parental care, and how emotional emptiness often led them towards crime, inspired him to create a film that reflects these harsh realities. His story centers around a boy recently released from jail after eight years, who crosses paths with another lonely child. Their shared pain becomes the thread that binds a compelling, human narrative.
Classified as a realistic narrative, the film is grounded in real-life experiences. According to Munshi, the most challenging aspect of making the film was managing the budget and coordinating a diverse team. While some crew members were experienced, others were new to the process. Despite these hurdles, a strong spirit of collaboration helped bring the project to life—though a few scenes remain to be completed.

Through his work, Raja Munshi hopes to spark reflection and empathy. He urges viewers to look closely at the youth around them—those quietly suffering from neglect, lacking love, direction, and support. “We need to be more attentive and responsible toward them,” he emphasizes. “With care and awareness, we can guide them back to the right path.”
His participation in the ‘Frames for Change’ Film Festival was driven by alignment with its mission. After learning about the initiative by Cinema for a Cause and Lifeplus Magazine, he instantly resonated with its purpose and submitted his film, which was later selected for showcase. Filmmaker Raja Munshi has submitted his short film titled “Bahan”, a poignant tribute to the enduring spirit of humanity.
The film carries a powerful message: “May the spirit of humanity live in every heart.”
