Spotlight on Filmmaker Saikat Das
Saikat Das, an independent filmmaker and singer from Chandannagar, West Bengal, has been creating waves in the world of short films since 2012. Driven by an early fascination with storytelling, Saikat’s imagination as a child was rich with narratives. As he matured, he realized the power of cinema as a medium to bring these stories to life. Without waiting for producers or ideal circumstances, he boldly ventured into filmmaking, beginning with his debut short film “Pratyabartan.”
Saikat’s creative passion lies in drama woven around social issues, a genre he continues to explore through his powerful storytelling. Over the years, he has directed more than 40 short films, with over 30 of them earning critical acclaim and recognition at over 100 national and international film festivals.

Among his most celebrated works are “Antarale” and “Prosno”, which have earned 102 and 96 awards respectively. Saikat’s achievements also include collaborations with acclaimed actress Rituparna Sengupta, who has produced and presented four of his short films.
His most recent project, “Antarale,” continues his legacy of thought-provoking narratives.
Saikat has submitted a new short film titled “Disable” for Frames for Change Film Festival organised by Ciema for a Cause and Lifeplus Magazine, with a compelling message: “Disabled persons are more able to clean the society.”
